I am a huge advocate for living a life of big, bold adventures and exploring every possibility. A life of unlimited fun, love and joy.
Everyone wants something different in life.
When wading through the ideas and dreams you have in your head and heart, it can feel exhilarating and inspiring, but it can also feel overwhelming at times. So much so that it can bring on a kind of hopeless, deflated feeling because of the pressure of needing to 'want it all'. We constantly see messages of 'more, more, more' and 'bigger, better, faster'. If you want those things, fantastic! Go out and achieve them. I know you can! If, however, you don't actually want a second home in the Caribbean, a yacht named 'Esmeralda' and a $6,000 handbag with its own instagram account, drop the pressure! You do not need to want those things. You don't need to have the same goals and aspirations as the woman who showed you how to make your first vision board. Your goals and dreams are for you, and you alone.
I've seen many people fall into the trap of wanting more than they actually want, just because we are told that we 'should'. I'm not knocking abundance or wealth here, those are both fantastic and liberating things. What I'm talking about is psyching yourself out with such massive goals that you have exactly zero belief that you will ever achieve them. Which then deflates your enthusiasm and your belief in your own ability to create the life you actually do want. This is especially upsetting if it turns out to have been a goal that you didn't genuinely want in the first place. If your goals and dreams are heavily influenced by societal expectation, it's time to reexamine what you truly want and want to create in your life.
If you take your biggest goal, whether it be financial, business, personal, health related etc, and just focus on that giant end result, you might never feel contented with the small victories that you achieve along the way to the big prize.
Keep your end goal in mind. Frequently remind yourself of it. But do not let that be the only focus. You must create smaller milestones so that you begin to build your belief in your (very real) ability to achieve the larger goals. When we set goals, sometimes the big dream is so far beyond our own belief in what we can do, that we never actually believe it's even attainable. Eventually frustration sets in, excitement wains, and we wind up feeling like we failed ourselves.
To avoid this, break things up into believable chunks (believable for YOU, not what you're told is believable). Break things down to the baby steps to make it so easy that you know for sure you can do it.
You might find that the big, audacious dreams and goals are superbly easy to come up with, to fantasize about, to make vision boards about etc. BUT, the steps it takes to get there are just unfathomable. This is why you must write things out. Look at the tangible steps you need to take to get there. And then break those steps down into baby steps. Make it so simple that you know exactly how you can do it. If you're unable to bring your stratospheric ideas down onto this plane and be able to see the steps, it might be wise to ask a trusted friend to help you with some ideas. And know that you might not know each individual step beforehand. It's impossible to plan out every single detail, as the universe has a funny way of taking over sometimes. Just be prepared to adjust the sails and re-route to create new steps as you go along, when needed.
The point is to break down the things you can see now. Action creates momentum. You don't have to see each piece right away, as you go along you will learn and adapt and be able to see more of the path ahead. But it's important not to get so bogged down with the idea, that you never take action.
Take one action. Just go for it.
Key Points:
1. You don't need to want the same things everyone else wants. There is beauty in simplicity. Get clear on what you really, truly want to create, achieve, have, do, and be in your life. Get a blank sheet of paper, and set a timer for 10 minutes. Write freely as if everything you write down, will become true.
2 .a) If there's a big goal/dream on your list that doesn't seem realistic, realize one thing first: Your 'realistic' is not the same as what is realistic for someone else. So I suggest scrapping that word altogether because all it represents is limitation, which has no place here.
2.b) If said goal/dream seems so big and ridiculous that you have no concept of how you could ever possibly achieve it, break it up into pieces. Break it into chunks of tasks and or mini goals, that will carve the path and make up your eventual big, amazing goal.
Whatever your goals and dreams, however big or small, they are yours to realize. They are yours to experience and yours to enjoy.
If you truly want something, you can have it. If you genuinely have a dream to create something, you can do it. Get real with yourself about exactly what you want. Believe in your ability to do it. And know that the universe is conspiring in your favour. There will be challenges, but you have the strength, resources, and tenacity to make it through. Keep moving forward. You've got this!
